The Chikkaballapur District Railway Agitation Committee members rejoiced on Saturday at what they called victory after a serious struggle.

“Our fight through several years has finally paid off,” they said, as they burst crackers and distributing sweets to one another and other citizens. The Railway Department has also promised a better-equipped station in place of the current one in Chikkaballapur city.

Speaking on the occasion, committee leader Yaluvahalli N Ramesh said shifting the railway station to a new place would have created a lot of problems for the citizens. It would be very far from the city.

“Members of about 68 committees and organisations had written to Union Minister Mamta Bannerjee explaining the situation to her and requesting her not to move the station. The Department has considered our plea and withdrawn the previous decision,” he added.
