New Superintendent of Police K T Balakrishna said people-friendly policing and maintaining peace in the district is his top priority.

Addressing mediapersons after taking charge from the Additional Superintendent of Police Vishnuvardhan, the new SP said the police would function well despite the staff crunch.

He said the strengthening of the Police Department for effective functioning is also his another main priority.

Balakrishna added that the moral policing in the district would not be tolerated at any cost and the maintenance of the law and order, safety and security of the people are other priorities, he added.

The new SP said the organised crime and traditional crimes are two different kinds of offences which might be curtailed, but not controlled completely.

However, stringent action would be taken against the people who go against the law, he stated.

Asserting that every district has its own challenges, the new SP said challenges before him in the district would not be something new that he has experienced in his long-standing career in different roles.

Ruling out any foul play within the police set-up in businessman Bhaskar Shetty murder case, Balakrishna said the charge against the police is unfound. There is no truth in the accusations, he said and added the recent Maoist resurgence would be tackled and the issue would taken up seriously. He said he would also talk to the ANF chief in this regard.

He said that there would be no excuse for the shortage of staff, which is obvious everywhere.

Balakrishna is a 1997 KSPS cadre officer. He started his career as a DySP in Channapatna in Bengaluru Rural district and later worked as ASP in Mandya and Chamrajanagar. He has also worked as SP in the CID wing. He served as the SP of Uttar Kannada.

He has two gold medals to his credit for his performance - firt one for nabbing four accused involved in the murder of former minister Nagappa and another during the 50th Independence Day celebrations, he added.
