Home Minister M B Patil has charged that Union Minister Ananth Kumar Hegde’s statement on chopping the hands of those who dare to touch Hindu girls is aimed at perpetuating communal clash ahead of Lok Sabha election.

He told media persons during his visit to the city on Monday, “Ananth Kumar Hegde wishes to be in news always through his controversial statements. He is habituated for making controversial statements.”

The minister said, “Hegde does not respect Parliament and the Constitution. He is an MP who wanted to change the Constitution. His statements on 'chopping hands' do not speak good about him. People will teach him a lesson in the upcoming Lok Sabha election. Hegde is neither eligible to be in Parliament nor a Panchayat member.”

On the confusion in the coalition government, he said, “Minor differences are common in a democracy. To keep away the communal party and to uphold the principles of secularism, there is a need to save the coalition government. The coordination committee will sort out all the differences of opinion”.
