PM Modi on February 6 inaugurated Helicopter Factory of Hindustan Aeronautics Limited in Karnataka’s Tumakuru. Spread across more than 600 acres of land, HAL’s mega chopper unit is said to be Asia's largest chopper factory. PM Modi also dedicated indigenous Light Utility Helicopter to the nation.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, CM Basavaraj Bommai accompanied the Prime Minister. Asia's largest helicopter manufacturing facility will initially produce Light Utility Helicopters with the unique feature of high manoeuvrability.
The factory will be expanded to manufacture other helicopters such as Light Combat Helicopter and Indian Multirole Helicopter. It will also be used for repair and overhaul of LCH, LUH, Civil ALH and IMRH in the future.
