Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah on Thursday announced an ex-gratia of Rs 5 lakh for kin of the deceased in the road accident in Chitradurga.

He wrote on X, "An investigation will be conducted into this matter, the cause of the accident will be found and necessary action will be taken. I once again pray that those injured in the incident recover as soon as possible and may the soul of the deceased rest in peace."

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also condoled the loss of lives and announced an ex gratia of Rs 2 lakh from the Prime Minister's National Relief Fund (PMNRF) to the deceased and Rs 50,000 to the injured.

At least nine people were killed when a bus burst into flames after it was hit by a speeding truck in Chitradurga district early Thursday.

"Deeply saddened by the loss of lives due to a mishap in the Chitradurga district of Karnataka. Condolences to those who have lost their loved ones. May those injured recover at the earliest.

"An ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh from PMNRF would be given to the next of kin of each deceased. The injured would be given Rs 50,000: PM @narendramodi," the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) said in a post on X.

Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah also expressed condolences on the death and he also announced a proper investigation into the accident will be conducted and the cause will be found out. His deputy DK Shivakumar also expressed grief for the deaths and wished for speedy recovery of the injured.
