The police on Friday registered a case against Sanath Kumar, organiser of the controversial ‘soma yaga’, under the Sections 5 and 6 of the Karnataka Prevention of Animal Sacrifices Act 1959, following a complaint lodged by the Shivamogga tahsildar.

Speaking to Deccan Herald over the phone, Superintendent of Police, Ravi D Channannavar, said a special team headed by Shivamogga DySP Ram L Arasiddi had been formed to probe into the alleged incident of animal sacrifice during the yaga held at Matturu village last month. The photos and video clips of the yaga have been collected and they are being scrutinised. The investigation team visited the village, he said.

Meanwhile, ZP CEO Rakesh Kumar submitted a report on the yaga to the district administration. The officer said the report was prepared on the basis of opinions collected from the people of the village.
