Sunil Agarwal, who is also deputy special officer of the Dasara Procession Sub-committee, chose to go on horseback to take stock of the situation during the event. The police chief, who was ably assisted by the cops of Mounted Police Wing,  was seen riding the horse, attracting the attention of the gathering. After moving a distance, he veered off the line and opted to move on the side of the procession route, to keep a tab on the crowd.

According to tradition, only the Mayor who goes on horseback, as a part of the grand spectacle. This apart, mounted police personnel led by their commandant ride horses in front of the howdah elephant, keeping the procession in line.
