A police constable and a rowdy sheeter were injured when the police fired at a rowdy for self-defence, at Jeppinamogaru in Mangaluru on Thursday late night.

According to City Police Commissioner Sandip Patil, the injured are head constable Sheenappa and rowdy sheeter Gowrish.

Gowrish is accused in six cases including three murder cases in Mangaluru Commissionerate jurisdiction. Of late, he was engaged in threatening and extorting money.

On receiving a complaint on threat and extortion, police personnel were rushed to arrest the suspects. However, Gowrish attacked police constable with a dagger.

As a measure of self-defence, police fired at him and later arrested him. He was injured on his leg.
