Officials of the energy department were pulled up for power cuts in the city during the elections on Saturday.

A KPTCL official, who did not wish to be named, said several officials in the department along with those in Bescom were reprimanded by energy minister D K Shivakumar.

"We were pulled up by the energy department secretary and the minister for the power cuts on Friday night and Saturday. We were also reprimanded for the short and intermittent power supply at some of the polling booths," the official said.

The staff, for their part, expressed helplessness and blamed the bad weather conditions for the power cuts. They also said transmission errors caused the intermittent power supply.

Power outages were reported in Vijayanagar, Mahalakshmi Layout, Pulakeshinagar and Hebbal on Saturday morning. Power interruptions were reported in many other parts of the city all through the day.

"We were not even allowed to cast our vote because of the power problems. I worked all night at the station. I got time just to freshen up at home and return to duty. I was looking forward to casting my vote," the official said.
