She appealed to senior students to be more responsible and sympathetic in their behaviour especially while dealing with junior students. President Patil was addressing a gathering after inaugurating the hostel building of JSS Free School and also the JSS Medical College silver jubilee seminar on ‘Development of sustainable rural health’ at Suttur Mutt on Saturday. Seniors have the responsibility of making their juniors feel at ease in the new environment. Even parents, teachers, university authorities and state governments need to provide a congenial environment for new students, the President addded.
Bowled over
The President on Saturday was bowled over with the prized possessions of rulers of Mysore, as well as the imposing structure of the majestic Amba Vilas Palace in Mysore. In the visitor’s book, the President wrote that she was very impressed with the architecture and the way the artecrafts have been displayed. “The preservation of the palace is noteworthy. I am reminded of our great heritage.” She became the second President to visit the palace, after Giani Zail Singh. After attending the function organised by JSS Mahavidyapeeta at Suttur in Nanjangud taluk, the President returned to Mysore in a special chopper and rested for a while at Lalitha Mahal Palace hotel. Around 1 pm, Patil, along with her relatives came to the palace who was received by District-In-Charge Minister Shobha Karandlaje, Mayor Purushottam, DC P Manivannan and Mysore Palace Board Deputy Director Avaradhi. She was awestruck to see golden howdah, silver chair and armoury displayed in the palace.
