The presidential election on July 19 may compel the State government to shelve the idea of holding the monsoon session of the State legislature in Belgaum.
However, a final decision is yet to be taken by Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda, who has been authorised to do so by the State Cabinet, on Thursday.
Sources in the Cabinet said that the chief minister has informed his colleagues that the polling will be held at the Vidhana Soudha on July 19. So, it would be convenient to hold the State Legislature session in Bangalore.
Speaking with mediapersons, Gowda said that the government will consult the leaders of the Opposition parties regarding holding the session at the newly constructed Suvarna Soudha in Belgaum.
The chief minister also held a review meeting over the construction of the Suvarna
Soudha. The government intended to hold the session in Belgaum, he added.
The construction of Suvarna Soudha will be completed by June 25.
The total cost of the project is Rs 391 crore of which Rs 358 crore has been spent so far.
The Public Works Department, which is implementing the project gave a presentation to the chief minister and other elected representatives.
