The Home department has announced the names of Prison Advisory Board members for five of the eight divisional central jails in the State.

The five PABs are for Bangalore, Mysore, Bellary, Dharwad and Belgaum central jails. The PABs will facilitate the pre-mature release of prisoners on good behaviour. In Bangalore, an eight-member PAB has been formed for the purpose.

The members include the Prisons Inspector General of Police (IGP), the district and sessions court judge, the district surgeon and three non-official persons. For Bangalore Central jail PAB, the three persons nominated are B Vijaykumar, Abdul Rehman and Sister Adele.

The three persons are chosen from various walks of life, with an impartial view on the behaviour of prisoners. Similarly, the department has constituted eight-member PABs for the other divisional central jails. The department has nominated writers and social workers for these PABs.

On January 30, the State government had resolved to release select prisoners on the grounds of good behaviour and not being involved in heinous crimes.
