Like all convicts, Prajwal will earn not more than Rs 540 per month as wages and is expected to begin working eight-hours for six days a week starting Monday.

Among the work options include gardening, carpentry, animal husbandry and handicrafts. Prajwal will also have to stick by prison schedule like the other convicts do with specific times to begin his day, have breakfast, lunch and dinner.

He will also have to wear the prisoners uniform and it has been handed to him. Earlier, he was allowed to wear civil clothes since he was lodged in the high-security cell as he was a former lawmaker under trial.

The former MP, who once drew a basic salary of Rs 1.2 lakh a month along with other perks, will now be subjected to the hard life of a convict inside the Bengaluru Central Jail. As allegations of rape came to the fore, he was expelled from JD(S).

Prajwal was sentenced to life on August 2 by a Special Court for Elected Representatives in Bengaluru after he was found guilty of raping his former house help. Three more cases are pending against him, with the trial commencing in the second case, where he is accused of repeated rape of a former ZP member.
