The state government on Thursday directed Bengaluru Urban district Deputy Commissioner V Shankar to conduct a probe into charges of illegal grant of bagair hukum land in Bengaluru by senior BJP leader and former deputy chief minister Ashoka.

Revenue Minister Kadogu Thimmappa told reporters that he has directed the deputy commissioner to conduct the probe based on a complaint given by members of the Bengaluru City Congress Committee recently.

The minister said Ashoka, who had served as the chairman of the Bagair Hukum Committee between 1999 and 2004, had helped grant 143 acres in Bengaluru to 79 influential persons, including politicians and government employees. Appropriate action will be taken based on the deputy commissioner’s report, he added.
