Mayakonda: In a shocking incident, an elder brother has reportedly killed his younger brother on Monday night over a property dispute in a farm field near Mayakonda in the taluk.
The deceased has been identified as Neelappa (68) of the village. There was a long-standing dispute between Poojar Chandrappa and his brother Neelappa over property. It is learnt that despite the land dispute case is still in the court, Chandrappa was hindering his younger brother from carrying out farming activities on the disputed farm land.
When Neelappa went to his farm to graze cows, an argument broke out with his elder brother again and it escalated to a heated argument. Chandrappa attacked him on the head and with a sharp weapon, causing Neelappa to collapse. His son Rakesh and friends took him to the Mayakonda Primary Health Centre immediately. Later, he was shifted to Davangere District General Hospital for further treatment. However, doctors declared Neelappa dead at the hospital.
A case has been registered at Mayakonda police station and the police have arrested Chandrappa.
Relatives of the deceased man staged a protest in front of the police station here on Tuesday, alleging that the police had registered a complaint only against Chandrappa, despite a complaint being filed against four members of his family, including the accused. They demanded the arrest of the remaining three persons also.
