A proposal has been submitted to the Home Department seeking revival of beat (patrolling) system. Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) Alok Mohan told reporters on Thursday that in order to put a curb on criminal and illegal activities, the department has been upgrading patrolling system under all Police Commissionerates in the state.
He said state government recently provided additional patrolling vehicles which help police reach the crime spot within three to five minutes after getting alerts.

The ADGP said that CCTV cameras will be installed at all the entrances of Mysuru city and separate patrolling vehicles will be deputed on the outskirts of the city to keep a close watch on criminals. He warned of stern action against those involved in crime against women, drug peddling and disturbing communal harmony. He said they would be booked under Goonda Act.
He said, as many as 1.46 lakh people in the country and 11,500 people in the state had lost their life in the road accidents. As compared to other cities, the death rate due to road accidents is comparatively less in Mysuru, he said.
Inspector General of Police (Southern Range) Vipul Kumar, Mysuru Police Commissioner Dr A Subramanyeswara Rao, Deputy Commissioners of Police H T Shekar and N Rudramuni were also present.
