Protect, promote Kannada: Minister78th Sahitya Sammelana held at Dharmastala

Speaking after inaugurating the 78th Sahitya Sammelana organised as part of the Lakshadeepotsava at Dharmastala here on Sunday, Kumar said that Kannadigas should speak Kannada in their houses and promote the language. “The land and culture can be protected only if people promote the language. Language cannot be preserved only through literary conventions, but it can be done by implementing the resolutions of the meet properly,” he said and called upon people in the border regions to strive to protect Kannada.

Delivering the presidential address, Litterateur Hampa Nagarajaih said that the traditional family system is being replaced gradually by the old age home culture. “Indian culture is apt in all respects and it is our responsibility to protect it. The cultural pollution can be checked through education,” he added.

The classical tag has been given to Kannada, but most of the benefits were not been derived so far because of the lack of political will among readers in the State, he lamented adding that the Centre has not sanctioned any facilities following the announcement of the classical tag. Dharmastala Dharmadhikari D Veerendra Heggade said that literature, music and art make man merciful and generous. “The sahitya sammelana enlightens the minds of lakhs of people on literature, culture and art. Dharmastala not only a centre for religion, but also a promote language, culture and art,” he added.
