Condeming the illegal theft of water from Yagachi pipeline in Belur, MLA Y N Rudreshgowda and others staged a stir by stopping the water supply station, here on Monday.

Fluoride contamination

A week ago, the matter was brought up for discussion during the district drought action plan meeting chaired by District in-charge Minister Dr H S Mahadevappa.

Speaking on the occasion, Rudreshgowda alleged that illegal theft of water by drilling hole into the water pipeline K B Hall in Chikmagalur district had affected supply to 58 villages, which suffer from fluoride water contamination.

Protesters expressed their anger by shutting down the water pumping station that supplies water to Chikmagalur district. They threatened that the pumping station will be forcibly shut down if the problem was not rectified soon.

MLC Gayathri Shantegowda and Deputy Commissioner (Chikmagalur) and other officers rushed to the spot tried to convince the protesters, but in vain. Ex MLA H M Vishwanath, Block Congress president Y T Damodar and others were present.
