The four public toilets built by the Karnataka Slum Clearance Board at a cost of Rs four lakh under the Nirmal Bharat Abhiyan Yojan in 2003-04 lie in ruins.
Built without much thought given to the location and availability of water, the toilets were located in places where they are not required. One of the toilets has been built in a residential area and the approach road to another toilet is totally destroyed.
Although the new layout at Shivakeshavnagar has sparse population, the Slum Clearance Board has built a toilet here. The toilet is surrounded by stagnant water from a nearby lake. The toilet stands next to a Government Primary School and a temple.
The funds spent on the useless toilet could have gone into a proper building for the school which is housed in a dilapidated structure.
The authorities should take immediate action and save the toilet which has been inundated with water from the lake and the building should be handed over to the school authorities, said local resident M Srinivas.
