A day after Hirekerur MLA B C Patil hit out at the Congress for delaying the Cabinet expansion, party MLC Raghu Achar has announced that he will quit the party and also resign as member of the Legislative Council.

Achar is planning to meet former chief minister and Congress legislature party leader Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister G Parameshwara on
Tuesday and tender his
resignation.

Achar is said to be upset with Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy and Medical Education Minister D K Shivakumar over the shifting of the government medical college from Chitradurga to Kanakapura.

Kanakapura is represented in the Legislative Assembly by Shivakumar.

Achar said the medical college was sanctioned to his district when Siddaramaiah was at the helm.

While he attacked Shivakumar for his “authoritarian” attitude, he charged that Kumaraswamy had neglected the development of Chitradurga, by refusing to release grants to the district.

He said Kumaraswamy was more worried about safeguarding his government and making trips to various temples, instead of focusing on development.

Achar said the chief minister had completely sidelined MLCs.

The MLC also feels that the Congress’ alliance with the JD(S) had harmed the prospects of the grand old
party.

He said it was not too late for the Congress leaders to pull out of the coalition.
