Income Tax officials continued the searches at Energy Minister D K Shivakumar’s residence at Sadashivanagar on Friday. The raids that started on Wednesday morning, are continuing even after 60 hours of searches and seizure of documents.

Sources said that a team of senior officials from the I-T department visited the Sadashivanagar house on Friday evening. The last round of mahazar and compilation of documents seized from various other places started in the presence of senior officials. It is said that the team of senior officials confronted Shivakumar with queries on investments and shareholdings in various companies.

“The searches have been completed at all places. The documents seized from various places are brought to the Sadashivanagar house for compilation. The last round of questioning and mahazar will be conducted by Friday midnight.

By Saturday morning, the teams will vacate the premises,” an official said. Meanwhile, sources confirmed that the total recovery of cash from all the places searched, including Delhi, was estimated at Rs 11.5 crore.

However, the I-T department has not disclosed the exact locations from where the cash was recovered. The department had searched more than 60 premises since Wednesday in a tax evasion case against Shivakumar.

Shivakumar was in Singapore in the last week of July when the crisis on Gujarat Rajya Sabha elections erupted. The minister’s close circle termed the trip as just a vacation. However, he had cut short his visit and rushed back to Delhi and then to Bengaluru to oversee the stay of Gujarat Congress MLAs at Eagleton Golf Resort in Bidadi.

On Friday, Shivakumar’s brother D K Suresh played down rumours about his brother’s Singapore trip. When asked whether Shivakumar was in Singapore in connection with some investments, Suresh said they consider Bengaluru the best place for investment.
