The proposal envisaged the rail line passing through the Chamarajnagar-Bannari area. The final survey of the proposed line was to be conducted simultaneously along with the Chamarajnagar-Mettupalyam stretch. But the Tamil Nadu Forest Department has refused permission for the survey in reserved forest area.
Empowered Committee on Environment set up in line with a Supreme Court direction has refused permission to the project. In his reply to an unstarred question tabled by R Dhruvanarayan, Minister of State for Railways K H Muniyappa has said in the backdrop of the denial of permission of the Empowered Committee, the Karnataka and Tamil Nadu Governments had been informed that the Bangalore-Satyamangala rail line project had been given up.
