Rain batters Madikeri, ShimogaSchools and colleges to remain shut today

Thursday witnessed heavy rainfall in many parts of Kodagu district, forcing the authorities to declare holiday to all schools and colleges on Friday.

Madikeri, Sampaje, Bhagamandala, Virajpet, Hudikeri, Srimangala, Somwarpet, Shanivarsanthe, Shantalli and Kodlipet have recorded copious rainfall. Even catchment areas like Talacauvery, Bhagmandala, Siddapura and Napoklu received heavy rainfall increasing the river inflow.

Many areas have been inundated and houses damaged in several areas. Rain coupled with gale brought down roadside trees in some areas.
Following good rainfall in catchment areas (13.6 mm), the water level in Harangi reservoir has increased.

As on Thursday, the water level was recorded at 2,857.02 feet, while the reservoir’s maximum level is 2,859 feet — against last year’s figure of  2,828.64 feet on the same day.

Heavy rainfall continued on Thursday. Teerthahalli, Hosanagar, Shikaripur, Jog and Kargal received good rainfall, raising the water levels in major dams. The water level in Linganamakki dam recorded at 1, 792.20 feet as against 1, 752.90 feet on the same day last year.

Similarly, water level in the Bhadra dam rose to 163.09 feet against the maximum level of 186 feet. Tunga dam has reached its brim over the last few days.
The inflow was 33,761 cusecs and the outflow was 32, 461 cusecs.
