Rain fury claims three lives near Hukkeri

Three persons including a woman and her two children were killed on the spot when a tree got uprooted and fell on their vehicle due to heavy rains at Shippur village in Hukkeri taluk on Monday. Six others in the same vehicle have suffered injuries.

The dead have been identified as Farzana Mushtaq Mulla (33), her daughter Farha (1) and son Aslam (4), residents of Ichalkaranji.

The injured have been admitted at a hospital.

According to the police, they were on their way to Ichalkaranji from Ajara, Kolhapur district in the car and had taken shelter under the tree as it was raining.

Worker electrocuted

A labourer was electrocuted when he came in contact with a live wire after a shed collapsed following heavy rains, at Chikmagalur on Monday.

According to the police, the deceased is Jayakumar, 18, a resident of Kanivedasarahalli. Jayakumar along with his friends was taking shelter in a shed when the mishap occurred.

Chikmagalur and surrounding areas received heavy rainfall on Monday. Rains also lashed Virajpet, Napoklu, Siddapura, Ammathi, Gonikoppa, Kushalnagar and surrounding areas in Kodagu district.
