Rain fury: Dist suffers ` 506 lakh loss

In a press release here, Deputy Commissioner Harsh Gupta said rainfall received by seven taluks is as follows. Mysore-217.6 mm(normal rainfall 55 mm), T Narasipur-87.8 mm (54 mm), Nanjangud-159.4 mm (47 mm), Hunsur-119.9 mm (52 mm), Periyapatna-98.4 mm (48 mm), K R Nagar-150.6 mm (55 mm) and H D Kote-73 mm (52 mm). While one person died in Mysore City, another person lost life in  KR Nagar taluk. The kin of those two persons have been given a compensation of  ` one lakh each.

Standing crops

He said as many as 30 houses have been badly damaged and 412 houses were partially damaged. The damage is said to be around  ` 25 lakh. As far as crops are concerned, standing crops on 108.2 acres have been damaged and the damage is around  ` 6 lakh. Hunsur taluk has suffered the maximum damage. A total of 19 tanks, 80.23 km roads , 18 culvert and four bridges have been damaged in the district. The loss is said to be around  ` 478 lakh.

Gupta said the loss suffered in each taluk is as follows: Mysore- ` 5 lakh, T Narasipur- ` 2 lakh, Nanjangud- ` 5 lakh, Hunsur- ` 157.08 lakh, Periyapatna-159.73 lakh, K R Nagar-` 112.89 lakh and H D Kote-` 64.83 lakh. The survey is still on and a clear picture will emerge after completion of the assessment by revenue department officials.
