Replying to issues raised by the Opposition members in the Assembly on Wednesday regarding drought, Revenue Minister Karunakara Reddy said the work on telemetric centres in hoblis has already begun. The government would like to have the rain gauging equipment in all GPs, on a priority basis.

He said the State government would meet the demand for drinking water, fodder and goshale (cow sheds) in areas affected by drought/flood.
The State had declared 86 taluks in 20 districts as drought-hit. But, revival of rains in some areas in August has helped to overcome drought considerably. Now only seven taluks were facing paucity of rains.
Of the 72 lakh hectares of land which was to be sown during the kharif, sowing could be done only in 62 lakh hactares. Sown crops have wilted in 20 lakh hactares due to rains. A sum of Rs 135 crore sanctioned by the Centre had been released for relief works, he said.
