Incessant rainfall continued to lash across Kodagu district on Tuesday. Rain which gave a break on Monday intensified in Shanivarasanthe, Kodlipete and Shanthalli.

Farmers who were worried over deficit rainfall last year, have a smile on their face. The paddy and ragi seedlings are ready for transplantation in fields of the district. With the catchment areas receiving copious rainfall, the inflow of water into Harangi reservoir and Chiklihole dam has increased. With Madikeri receiving heavy rainfall, a drain which flows in the heart of Madikeri town was overflowing.

A few natural waterfalls across the district has been attracting visitors to the district. Tourists have been thronging Harangi reservoir, to get a glimpse of releasing water into the river.

With lack of storm water drains, water is flown on the road, as a result, roads have been damaged in the district. Stagnated water on roads have been hampering movement of vehicles in a few villages. Pothoples on the roads have been causing inconvenience to the vehicle users in the district. With the continuos rainfall, a house belonging to K Janardhan Nayak in Chembu village has collapsed. The house belonging to Parvathi at seventh Hosakote has been damaged. However, no death has been reported.

In the last 24 hours, the district received an average of 19.86 mm rainfall. This includes: Madikeri Kasaba—22.8 mm, Napoklu—10.4 mm, Sampaje—33.4 mm, Bhagamandala—15 mm, Virajpet Kasaba—10.4 mm, Hudikeri—64.7 mm, Srimangala—19.4 mm, Ponnampet—19 mm, Balele—18 mm, Ammathi—8.5 mm, Somwarpet kasaba—9.6 mm, Shanivarasanthe—18 mm, Shanthalli—22.2 mm, Kodlipete—32.3 mm, and Suntikoppa—11 mm. The inflow of water into Harangi reservoir has increased. Water-level in the reservoir stood at 2856.06 feet. It was 2821.4 feet during the same period last year.
