Heavy rains which lashed parts of the State for the past one week receded on Saturday. Water levels in river Krishna and its tributaries decreased with rains giving respite in the Konkan region of Maharashtra.
During the past 24 hours, water levels in the rivers went down by about two feet. However, six bridges in Chikodi taluk and Kuduchi bridge in Raibag taluk (Belgaum district) continued to remain submerged in river waters.
Shimoga
Heavy rain that had lashed the district for the past one week receded on Saturday. Some parts of Shimoga, Bhadravathi received moderate rain in the morning. Sagar taluk, which was the worst affected due to heavy rain, received intermittent rain for a short period. There was a let-up in the flood-like situation at Mandagalale, Kanle and Saidur villages which were marooned due to the floods in River Varada.
Kodagu
Rains receded in Kodagu district also. Madikeri, Napoklu, Bhagamandala, Shanthalli, Srimangala and surrounding villages received normal rainfall. In the last 24 hours, the district has received an average of 2.3 cm of rain. Shanthalli received the highest of 5.9 cm rainfall, followed by Kodlipete—3.2 cm. Rains gave a respite in Mangalore also.
