Rain was long awaited as district was practically simmering with the mercury level hovering between 42 and 44 degree Celsius.
What began as a strong wind almost attained the magnitude of a storm, that brought the clouds and precipitation for some time. But the rain uprooted hundreds of trees. Some of them fell on the roofs of humble dwellings. The speed of the wind was such that zinc sheets of some houses were seen flying like missiles.
Most of the temporary sheds provided in Gandhinagar area to families whose houses were lost in the deluge of October last year, were blown away by the wind leaving the suffering families roofless yet again. Zinc sheets that had roofed the massive temporary shed of an exhibition, flew away and fell into the compound wall of the adjacent Asar Mahal.
