Though they bring hopes of good harvest they also bring miseries.
Two people died on the spot and another was injured when lightning struck them. Four sheep have also been charred to death. The deceased are identified as Nagappa and his brother-in-law Narayanappa (45), residents of Guttapalya of Goluru hobli in the taluk. Meanwhile Manjula from Timmampalli was severely injured.
As usual Nagappa and Narayanappa went to the neighbouring hills near their village to rear the the sheep.
The duo took refuge under a boulder to escape from the rains. However both died when lightning struck them. The villagers grew suspicious when the sheep returned in the night without their masters.
The villagers later went in search of the duo and found the charred bodies under the boulder at around 9 pm in the night.
Four sheep dead
Four sheep died when lightning struck them on Saturday. The sheep belonged to Chinnappa of Timmampalli village.
It is reported that rains lashed the region for more than two hours and many small and medium tanks have been filled. A part of the Timmampalli tank has also been filled in the showers. Former MLA G V Srirama Reddy visited the spot. A case has been registered by police.
Rs 2 lakh
Property worth more than Rs two lakh was destroyed in the rains accompanied by hailstorm and gusty winds that lashed the taluk on Saturday night. Cement sheets of many houses have blown off due to the strong winds.
In Harohalli village the houses belonging to Anakamma, Venkataramanappa, Pillappa, Gouramma, Luppamma, Balappa, Narayanamma, Nagaraju, Nanjundappa, Munivenkatappa ( all are dalits) have been damaged. The cements sheets laid on some of the houses have been blown off.
The houses of Sakkanahalli Malla Reddy an Venkateshappa of Maakarahalli, Muniyappa and Chinnappa of Hosakote have also been damaged due to the rains.
People have alleged that though rains have caused much damage the administration has cast a nelson’s eye towards their problem. The elected representatives have not even paid a courtesy visit to these houses, they added.
The aggrieved people have now pinned their hopes on government relief to repair their house.
