A ground for political slug-fest between H D Kumaraswamy (JD-S) and D K Shivakumar (Congress), Ramanagara district appears to have walked away with a bigger share of the pie.

With two heavyweights in the present coalition government representing Ramanagara, Kumaraswamy (Channapattana) and Shivakumar (Kanakapura), the district can boast of several big-ticket projects.

The district is now being turned into a hub of medical services by deciding to move Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS).

Kumaraswamy on Thursday announced a new medical college in Kanakapura, Shivakumar's home turf. This apart, Rs 40 crore has been sanctioned to set up a 300-bed super speciality hospital. Besides this, Mandya Medical Sciences Institute Hospital will also see be upgraded to an 800-bed hospital at a cost of Rs 30 crore.

Kumaraswamy had in his speech last week, assured during the inauguration of the State Cancer Institute at Kidwai that bone marrow transplant would be made available at an affordable cost for the poor in a phased manner.

To begin with, the Budget has promised a grant of Rs 12 crore for providing bone marrow transplant facility at Kidwai Memorial Institute of Oncology.

New super speciality hospitals at Belagavi, Kalaburagi and Mysuru have been proposed to provide patients better access to tertiary care.

At a cost of Rs 200 crore, hospitals with a 450-bed capacity will be set up in Gadag, Koppal, Chamarajanagar and Hassan districts.
