The Shantala Award bestowed on Raman speaks volumes about his passion for the art indeed, he added. He was speaking at the 48th Noopura Charana dance festival of Rajarajeshwari Nritya Kalakendra at Gubbi Veeranna Kalakshetra in Tumkur recently.

When the native dance and music are dying a slow death due to onslaught of western culture, the Raman School has been imparting Bharatanatyam for the past 48 years. Perhaps such kind of support is very unique in South India, observed litterateur Kavitha Krishna.

On the occasion, H B Siddalingappa, H N Mallesh, Aarif Mathin, Babu Rao, K N Dasachar, Kamalamma, K R Saroja and M C Lalita were felicitated for their distinguished service in various fields.
