Rare mouse deer gives birth

Speaking to Deccan Herald, Park Director H Jayaprakash Bhandary said the one-and-half year old ‘Ponnu’ gave birth to a healthy calf ‘Kinni’ weighing 410 gms on July 23. Both mother and daughter have been shifted to an isolation ward and are under close supervision of the park staff.

Mouse deer which is close to deer family and grows upto 14 inches long. It was common in this region a few years ago. However, now it has become endangered owing to hunting.
