Kamdhenu Ganapathy Temple Dharmadhikari Nanjundasamy expressing his view on the same said that there are 3 educational institutions, 2 temples, one hall and 2 hospitals on Rathnagiri road.
“This is an important route but it is neither a State Highway nor a National Highway. Since the density of vehicle on this route is also not very high let the road be widened by 10 ft on each side and not 40 ft,” he said.
One of the shopkeepers here says that following the instruction of Town Municipal Council, the building was built 30 ft away from the road. Now the officials are asking to demolish another 10 ft. “Is it right?,” he questions.
Kanaka Home Appliances Proprietor K M Manjunath says that about 10 ft of the road has been encroached at Rathnagiri road, which the building owners and vendors are ready to vacate but providing 40 ft for road widening is not amicable. Hotel Vasanth Vihar proprietor Jayanth Pai endorses the views of Manjunath.
Renowned Pediatrician Dr J P Krishnegowda says that he had built a new compound wall after leaving 9 ft for the road as instructed by the local governing body. “Why are they frightening the people with the road widening issue every now and then. I have spoken to MLA C T Ravi on this issue and he had responded positively.
Administration can not push development down people’s throat. If the buildings are vacated coercively then we will approach to State Human Rights Commission,” he said.
Dr Krishnegowda informed that a meeting of the residents and building tenants and owners of Rathnagiri road has been called at Kamadhenu Ganapathy temple on May 6. All the issues pertaining to road widening will be discussed there, he said.
