The over two-hour meeting, presided over by the Regional Commissioner, was attended by deputy comm- issioners and assistant commissioners from seven districts.

The meeting comes even as farmers fear that the division might face a drought as it has not received sufficient rains so far. The problems have been compounded because of unscheduled load-shedding in most parts of the division. Many places have been facing drinking water shortage also.

Interestingly, reservoirs in Maharashtra are also almost empty because of scanty rain and delayed monsoon. Generally, discharges from the Maharashtra reservoirs trigger floods in Belgaum region.

The meeting deliberated on the appointment of nodal officers for the villages affected to be affected by floods, compensating for crop losses, readying of boats and establishment of gruel centres. One of the officials, who attended the meeting, said, "Orders of the higher-ups have to be followed."

The deputy commissioners and assistant commissioners from Belgaum, Bijapur, Uttara Kannada, Bagalkot, Dharwad, Haveri and Gadag districts participated in the meet.
