Sitting outside the Swarnabhavan here, the activists demanded that legal action be taken against Srinivas, who is also a CRPF commandant.

The Government appointed a Chief Security Officer to guard the mines after the gold mines were closed down. The officer, however, spends most of the time raiding and demolishing the houses of the mine workers. The CSO has become a terror for the workers, said the Samiti leaders during the protest.

The workers, who have been living in the Government quarters for several years, have sacrificed a lot for the gold mines. About six thousand workers have contributed in many ways to increase the wealth of the nation. Now, they are tormented by a CSO who knows nothing about either KGF or the gold mines. The Chief Security Officer, who earns Rs 1.60 lakh salary as well as other facilities, does not know or understand the life-style of the poor, they added.

The workers are worried about losing whatever little they own. The company had given the houses to the mine workers three years back. Yet, no appropriate records have been produced thus far. The CSO is being inconsiderate towards the workers, the leaders said, demanding Srinivas be recalled from the post immediately.
Samiti leaders Narasimha, Nataraj, Jayakumar, Muttukumar, Sattivelu and others were present during the dharna.
