Bengaluru: Anticipating recruitment to vacant teachers posts in the government-run schools, a record number of candidates have cleared Karnataka Teacher Eligibility Test (KARTET) 2025, the results of which were announced late on Tuesday night.
Compered to previous year, 82,000 more candidates have cleared the test, this year. During the KARTET 2024, the total eligible candidates were 14,616. TET is an eligibility to teach in government schools, and even some private schools and Central schools consider TET.
As per the data available from the Department of School Education and Literacy, since the introduction of teacher eligibility test in the year 2011, the TET 2023 results were the highest with 64,830 candidates clearing it. However, the 2025 results have broken that record with 97,383 candidates passing the test.
According to the Department of School Education and Literacy data, this year a total of 3,16,558 candidates appeared for the test comprising Paper-1 and Paper-2.
Paper-1 is to teach for classes 1 to 5. As many as 79,345 candidates appeared for the test, out of which 29,377 have passed. Meanwhile, Paper-2 is to teach classes 6 to 8 and a total of 2,50,189 registered for the test. Of this, 2,37,163 appeared for the test. Of the 2.37 lakh, 68,006 have cleared the paper.
TET is conducted for 150 marks and those who secure 90 marks are declared as eligible. Only for Urdu subject the test was held for 149 marks.
As per the data, the primary schools have 45,000-plus posts vacant, while in high schools the vacancy is 12,000-plus.
