Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has said that recovery notices have already been issued to the sugar factories which have not cleared the arrears to sugar cane growers.

He told reporters at the airport here on Saturday that sugar cane growers need not worry as the government would arrange the payment to them by selling the sugar recovered from the factories.

On cricket betting menace in the twin cities, the chief minister said, “The case of cricket betting in the twin cities has been handed over to the CID. Stringent action would be taken against those, including police, if found involved in the scam, he said adding that action against a few policemen has already been initiated.

In reply to Leader of Opposition in Legislative Assembly Jagadish Shettar’s suggestion to hold monsoon session for all 20 days in Belagavi, Siddaramaiah hit back saying, “Did they do so when they were in power.” Co-operative Minister Mahadev Prasad, District In-charge Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao, and others were present.

‘Action against corrupt’

The State Government has rejected the report given by the Lokayukta on illegal sand mining in the State, however, it does not mean that it is trying to protect the corrupt officials, said Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.

Speaking to mediapersons in Dharwad, he said, “The government is not trying to weaken the Lokayukta by rejecting its report. In the report, the Lokayukta had not mentioned the names of the tahsildars and other higher officials. Hence, the report has been rejected. Now, the government has ordered for departmental inquiry taluk-wise and would initiate action against the corrupt officials,” he added.
