The staff-shortage in universities across the State will be addressed in a phased manner, Higher Education Minister R V Deshpande has said.

Speaking after inaugurating new buildings at Davangere university on Wednesday, the minister said it was not possible to fill all the vacancies at a time. He said he would raise the issue during the pre-budget discussion with the chief minister scheduled for Thursday.

Deshpande said he would not assure of releasing funds to the varsities in violation of the financial discipline as done during the erstwhile BJP regime.

“However, I would ensure that varsities get requisite monetary assistance,” the minister said.  He said that a solution would be found to the administrative issues between Davangere and Kuvempu universities by holding talks with the respective vice-chancellors.

The minister said the demand for commerce course has gone up these days and hence instead of opening a government college in Davangere, three classes each for boys and girls will be opened.
