The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Special Court on Tuesday remanded former minister Gali Janardhana Reddy, his personal assistant Mehfuz Ali Khan and four others in judicial custody till April 2, in connection with the iron ore export scam.
The Special Court judge, Shreeshananda, allowing the CBI Special Public Prosecutor’s application under Section 167 of CrPC, remanded the duo, whose CBI custody expired on Tuesday, in judicial custody.
They, along with four others – Kharadapudi Mahesh, Swastik Nagaraj, S Muthaiah and S P Raju – will be lodged in the Parappana Agrahara prison here.
The other four were remanded in judicial custody on March 14 by the same court, which had extended the CBI custody of Reddy and Ali till Tuesday. All the six accused were produced before the CBI Special Court.
While Muthaiah and Raju are already in prison in connection with a case involving Reddy’s mining firm Associated Mining Company (AMC), Nagaraj and Mahesh were arrested earlier this month by the CBI, which is probing the alleged scam relating to export of iron ore from Belekeri port in Uttara Kannada district.
The agency, which has filed an FIR against 20 people besides Reddy in connection with illegal quarrying by AMC (owned by Reddy and his wife Aruna), is investigating into the Belekeri scam, subsequent to a Supreme Court directive in September 2012.
