Republic Day venue shifted to Bannimantap ground in Mysuru

Owing to ongoing development works at Oval Ground and Chamundi Vihar Stadium here, the district administration has decided to celebrate Republic Day on January 26 at Torchlight Parade ground at Bannimantap in the city this year

Presiding over a preliminary meeting, Deputy Commissioner C Shikha said the day will be celebrated in a meaningful manner at the changed venue. The department of public instruction should take initiative to ensure participation of more number of children in the celebrations.

To ensure smooth celebrations, various sub-committees involving officials from various departments related to parade, cultural programmes, reception and cleanliness were formed. As per protocol, district in-charge minister will take part in the celebrations on the day at 9 am. Various troops of police personnel, NCC cades, home guards and school and college students will take part in the parade. Cultural programmes will be conducted on the same evening at Kalamandir. Only those students, who were deprived of opportunity earlier, should be considered for performance. The education department should identify such students and train them, the deputy commissioner directed officials.

Most importantly, plastic flags should not be used either by students or public. The university and education department should issue a memo in this regard. The Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) officials should inspect the commercial establishments and ensure that flags were made using only traditional cloth.

It is mandatory for officials and staff irrespective of department to attend the programme and sign their attendance at temporary office opened for the purpose at the venue.

Additional Deputy Commissioner T Venkatesh, DCP (law and order) Dr H T Shekar, Senior Deputy Director of Food and Civil Supplies Department K Rameshwarappa, Assistant Director, Kannada and Culture Department Nirmala Matapathi among other officials attended the meeting.
