While reports on hundreds of dogs allegedly been culled had shocked the people recently, here is an incident where more than Rs one lakh has been spent to trace two stray dogs, which had gone missing from Kote Beedhi, in Maddur town.
The two stray dogs Bhyra and Kenchi had made Kote Beedhi as its home for several months. The Town Municipal Council had caught several dogs about 20 days ago, in an effort to control the stray dog menace across the district. The canines were said to have been released into the forests.
It was during the drive the two strays were caught and were released into Muthathi forests. The residents of Kote Beedhi and the traders of Old Bus stand, who could not find the dogs were determined to find the canines and collected a whopping Rs one lakh for the same. They even announced a cash reward of Rs 25,000 for those who found them. Five youths of the town Nazir, Ramachandu, Balu, Somu and Kumar, under the guidance of former president of TAPCMS Auto Krishna began the search operation. They had even carried the pictures of the dogs with them to identify the right dog.
Interestingly, the youths succeeded in their mission, and brought back the dogs on Tuesday evening.
The residents celebrated the return of the dogs by lighting crackers and distributing sweets. As promised, the five youths were presented with Rs 5,000 cash prize each. Krishna said that the residents had no regrets whatsoever over spending a lakh to find the canines.
