Mangaluru: During a Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) council meet on Thursday, resolutions towards renaming several stretches in the city were unanimously accepted.
It was decided the resolution will be sent to the government on the renaming of Jyothi junction as Dr B R Ambedkar Junction. MCC Commissioner Ravichandra Naik said that a survey of the junction has been carried out towards its development.
Meanwhile, it was proposed to name Ujjodi Nekkaremar Road in Valencia ward after Bommanna Poojary, a famous agriculturist from Nekkaremar family and well known figure in religious field.
Council whip said that the proposal is approved and a report in this regard will be sought from the Town Planning and Development Standing Committee.
It was also proposed to rename Karavali Circle at Kankanady as 'Sri Satya Saramani Circle'.
The proposal to name the service road from Pumpwell junction – Ullal circle as 'Veerarani Abbakka road' too was approved by the council.
The proposals to name Kodakkal – Dekkadi in Alape (North) ward as Vaidyanatha road and the new concrete road from Manasa Mantapa to Daddalkad cross near Urwastore as Sri Mahaganapathy temple road were also accepted.
Gujjarakere maintenance
The proposal to hand over the maintenance of Gujjarakere lake in Bolara ward to Bolara Halekote Sri Mariyamma temple, was accepted by the MCC council, on various conditions, the major one being the temple management will bear the entire expense of maintenance.
They also agreed to provide metered connections of drinking water supply in six households in Surinje, Bala, Permude, Jokatte and Bala gram panchayats.
