'Revoke ban on sand mining'

Addressing a press meet on Wednesday, Varuna Mahesh, a contractor said the High Court order on ban on sand mining applies only to the gazette notification dated March 19, 2010.

While, the tender notification for the Maranapura village was issued based on the gazette notification issued in 2000.

“We are a group of contractors who invested on getting the tender for sand mining and invested about `2 crore. Our tender is due until next March. The administration should allow us for mining for next three months atleast. Otherwise, the contractors will suffer a huge loss,” he said. He criticised the administration for failing to check the illegal mining in the region. Everyday, not less than 200 sand lorries ply between T Narasipur and Mysore, to other places illegally, he said.
