Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS), Bengaluru, will introduce PhD course in Nursing and MSc in Critical Care from this academic year.

RGUHS Vice Chancellor Dr K S Ravindranath said on Thursday that the varsity was awaiting approval from the authorities concerned to launch the courses.

He was speaking after inaugurating a national conference on “Framework for 21st Century Educators” organised by JSS College of Nursing at JSS Hospital in Mysuru.

“As many as 1,500 nursing colleges and 2,500 institutions offer diploma in nursing in the country. Nearly 20% of nursing institutions in Karnataka lack basic facilities and thus fail to offer quality education.

“Of the 280 nursing colleges functioning in the state, 60%-80% are performing extremely well and the remaining few should concentrate on providing quality education. These institutions should provide advanced infrastructure with committed teaching faculty,” he said.

Delegates from Kerala, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh took part in the event.
