The reply to a Right to Information (RTI) application has revealed that the Public Works Department has spent Rs 21 crore for the renovation work of ministers’ official residences.
Bhimappa Gundappa Gadad, an RTI activist from Belagavi, had filed applications under RTI seeking details of expenditure on renovation work. The reply stated that the authorities have spent Rs 21 crore for the renovation of 28 official residences in Bengaluru from 2008-09 to 2013-14.
Among these government buildings, renovation of Cauvery Guest House on Kumara Kripa Road was taken up at Rs 3.96 crore, followed by the work at Anugraha Guest House at Rs 1.43 crore. Gadad had filed another RTI application seeking details on money spent on replacement and polishing of furnitures in these buildings.
The information received by Gadad revealed that the PWD has spent Rs 14.86 crore in the last 10 years. Gadad said he will submit a memorandum to the chief minister, seeking an inquiry into the expenditure on renovation work at government buildings.
