To protest the State and Central Governments’ lackadaisical attitude towards the farmers’  woes, the Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha in association with the Hasiru Sene, will be holding a mega divisional-level rally at the Town Hall here on Nov 27.

Addressing a press meet on Thursday, K M Puttaswamy, vice-president of the Rajya Raitha Sangha said the government was oblivious to the problems of the ryots.
Neither the state nor the central government has fixed a fair and remunerative price for paddy, sugarcane and tobacco.

The rally would deliberate on the callous attitude of the governments and also about the indiscriminate denotification and acquisition of fertile agricultural land for various purposes.

He said the centre’s decision to ban export of paddy and lifting cess on its import has put the farmers in a fix. A farmer would incur an expense of nearly ` 25,000 to get one acre yield of paddy.

The remuneration he is getting per yield of paddy is less than 50 per cent of what he has spent, he said, adding that farmer’s incurred heavy loss due to the denial of fair price on his produce.

Moreover, the state government, on the pretext of industrial development has issued notification for acquisition of about 50,000 acres of land in and around the Mysore district. These lands are located in Hunsur, H D Kote, Nanjangud, Mysore, Chamarajanagar, Srirangapatana and K R Pet and are fertile.

The rally would demand for the closure of the Karnataka Industrial Area Development Authority, which has turned into a land spinning agency of the Government.
Also, the government should announce a fair and remunerative price on sugar cane and tobacco and declare a support price for the paddy. More paddy procurement centres should be opened to help farmers cut transportation expenditure, he added. Hosakote Basavaraju, Hosur Kumar and others were present.
