District Minister A Manju, on Monday, said, the applicants will be allotted sites at S M Krishna Layout, developed by the Hassan Urban Development Authority (HUDA), in the city, on May 18.

Addressing the reporters here, Manju said, the sites would be allotted in the 60:40 ratio as directed by the Supreme Court. “The government has approved the decision taken by the HUDA to allot 6,335 sites in the layout to the applicants. Around 453 acres of land was purchased at Rs 3 lakh per acre for the layout several years ago. The farmers, who had parted with their lands for the layout, would be given 9,500 sq ft land per acre in their respective survey numbers,” he said.

Manju said, 45 acres will be developed as sites for public and 68 acres has been identified for parks and other civic amenities. In all, 1,740 sites will be available for the applicants, which will be alloted through draw of lot at Kalabhavan on May 18. If the name of the person, picked in the draw, already owns a site, in such case the allotment will stand cancelled. Those who get sites should give a written declaration that he or his wife do not possess one, which would be later verified. Besides, sites will be allotted under various quotas and for the landlosers.

Cricket stadium
Manju said that Karnataka State Cricket Association has sought six acres of land to construct an international standard cricket stadium. If the stadium is built, Ranji  and other first-class matches can be held here. The cricketing infrastructure would also help the local youth to hone their skills. The S M Krishna Layout would be developed on the lines of Le Corbusier’s Chandigarh. The roads would be 80 to 100 ft wide, with gas pipeline and electricity supply lines, the minister said.

Reacting to the remarks by MLA H S Prakash that the authorities have failed to take into confidence the farmers who have parted with their lands for the layout, Manju said, the politicians should support development works and not try to make a mountain out of molehill.

To a specific query, the minister said that the layout was named after former chief minister S M Krishna by the previous government and it will not be changed for any reason, he replied to a query. HUDA chairman Krishnakumar Hongere and ZP president Shwetha Devaraj were present.
