The Supreme Court on Thursday declined to stay an order passed by the Karnataka High Court quashing the appointment of B C Mylarappa as the registrar of Bangalore University.

“We are not going to pass any order at the moment. We will examine the issue,” a Bench of Justices A K Patnaik and Gyan Sudha Misra said as senior advocate Mukul Rohtagi, appearing for Mylarappa, pressed for an interim stay on the order of the High Court.

“Some appointments are politically motivated in the country. It should be without politics. ‘Yes men’ should not be considered. Suitability is the most important factor,” the Bench observed. It gave four weeks’ time to P M Parameswara Murthy and others, who had challenged Mylarappa’s appointment, to file their response in the matter.

The High Court had quashed Mylarappa’s appointment in November last with immediate effect.
