The Supreme Court on Friday rejected the bail application filed by former Koppal zilla panchayat member Hanmesh Nayak in connection with murder of RTI activist and 17-year-old student Yallalinga from Kanakgiri in Koppal district last year.

Justice Pinaki Chandra Ghose and Justice Amitava Roy asked the applicant to approach trial court. Nayak, while seeking bail, pleaded that he was not involved in the incident and police had filed the charge sheet after completing the probe. Yallalinga was found dead near railway track in Gadag district. Koppal town police, who probed the incident, arrested nine persons including Nayak, his son Mahantesh, Manoj Durgappa and  Balanagowda and charged them with murder. It was said that Yallalinga had sought a probe into irregularities in sanitation works in Kanakagiri.
